UDNmale Animation Applied to JuggMaleA character How To page 1
Instructions on how to apply animation from the UDN Male model to the Jugg model and import it into Unreal
The first step is to import the JuggMaleA PSK file from the UT2003 disk number 3 under the SkinArt folder. Use the PSKimportO.tsx You can get it by clicking Here.
Below shows the imported mesh, the fake skeleton and the not so
good skeleton. The upper half of the skeleton is complete. Delete the
bad skeleton and hide the character mesh. I created the skeleton
starting at the bottom of the spine and placing joints at the fake
bone locations. Please note that the import plugin does not read in
the uv texture information.

Tracing done. Front view. Note that the import plugin created the
skeleton at an angle. This needs to be fixed.

The skeleton is rotated into proper position by using the mesh in
wireframe mode as a guide. After the skeleton is rotated into the
proper orientation the axis needs to have its rotation normalized.
Use the axis tool then the normalize rotation tool. Next get out of
the axis mode and use the normalize location tool to center the
skeleton on the origin, location(0,0,0).

After the skeleton is oriented and normalized, the joints need to be adjusted for proper rotation and the yaw roll and pitch turned on or off for each joint. I rotated the joints so that the pitch(blue) is in line with the front view. The picture on the left is bad orientation on the right is the good one.

Next unhide the mesh object and use the axis tool on it. Use the
move to center of object to fix the axis location.

Then normalize the meshes location and fine tune it's position with respect to the skeleton. Do not attach the skeleton to the mesh. At this point the skeleton and the mesh should be lined up with each other, centered in space, their axes centered and axis rotation normalized.
IMPORTANT: RENAME EACH OF THE JOINTS OF THE SKELETON TO HAVE UNIQUE NAMES.
Save the skeleton and the mesh to seperate object files for the
next steps.

Next the skeleton and mesh will be scaled to fit the UDNmale dimensions and the mesh will be attached to the skeleton.
